Wine Wednesday: Sequoia Grove
Welcome to today’s issue of “Wine Wednesday!” This wine is available on the ‘Wine by the Glass’ list in all U.S. Morton’s locations and is available in most local wine shops.
Today’s Featured Wine: Sequoia Grove, Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa 2006
The Story:
- Bordeaux style, which means it’s Cabernet based with some Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot blended in
- Named after the 3 large Sequoia trees that tower over a 100-year-old barn that is now the Sequoia Grove tasting room
- Mike Trujillo (Head Winemaker and President of Sequoia Grove) is a veteran and has gained notoriety for his cult status Karl Lawrence wines. Please note that Mike Trujillo will be the host of a winemaker dinner at the Morton’s locations in Boston, Chicago and Denver. Click here for information and reservations.
The Profile:
- Dry, full-bodied, rich, fruit-forward (dark red and black fruit) with some spice and balanced tannins
The Pairings:
- All steaks pair well with this wine!
- Chocolate! Chocolate and Cabernet Sauvignon are a classic pairing. Chocolate has a rich fat content, like steak, and also has tannins, which balance nicely with the tannins of wine.
Cheers, and enjoy!
